Essential Responsibilities of Education:
- Provide leadership in the formulation of instructional programs, plans, policies, and procedures
for all schools.
- Supervise and evaluate the effectiveness of school principals.
- Develop and/or administer professional development programs for classified and certificated staff.
- Organize and administer summer school programs.
- Assist school principals in the development and review of each school’s Single School Plan for
Student Achievement, including the school’s site budget.
- Oversee development of the district’s categorical budget.
- Participate in the establishment of the district’s annual budget.
- Assist in the development of education specifications for all rehabilitation, modernization and construction of
school facilities.
- Work with the school site principals to evaluate and establish an order of priority needs
and requests for capital outlay.
- Schedule and conduct various meetings such as Elementary and Secondary Principals' Councils,
Secondary Curriculum Council, and the Elementary and Secondary Parent Advisory Committees.
- Assist in the selection, supervision, and evaluation of certificated personnel.
- Supervise various Child Development pre-kindergarten programs.
- Lead the elementary and secondary certificated Parcel Tax Task Force Committees.
- District representative to the Measure H2008 and Measure I2008 Parcel Tax Citizen's Oversight
Committees.
- Administer the Gifted and Talented Education Programs.
- Oversee the Department of Special Education, including Home Hospital Service and the district’s Health
Services staff
- Provide leadership for the writing and revision of curriculum materials and guides.
- Promote curricular alignment and articulation of elementary, secondary and post-high school
educational programs.
- Oversee the high school athletic and co-curricular programs.
- Assist in the selection, supervision, and evaluation of certificated personnel.
- Supervise the Department of Student Support Services, including expulsions and
truancy programs.
- Supervise the Department of Curriculum and Categorical Programs.
- Oversee the application and implementation of federal, state and local grants.
- Supervise various afterschool programs (pre-K–8)
- Participate on the district’s negotiation team with the certificated teacher's bargaining
unit.
- Oversee student assessment, intervention and support programs .
- Oversee vocational education, dual enrollment and other partnerships with higher education
agencies.
- Work with the Santa Barbara County Education Office to coordinate programming and support.
