Child Development School Age Teacher
4 Hours/Day

The Santa Barbara Elementary School District announces a temporary vacancy for part-time School Age Teacher (Kdg. – 3rd grade) for 4 hours/day (afternoons), 225 days/year. The position is open to qualified candidates within and without the district. The position increases to full-time during holidays, school recesses and summer recess.

Qualifications: Applicants must possess a valid Child Development Permit; or a minimum requirement of 12 semester units of Early Childhood Education including at least one course in each of the following core areas: child development, child and family, and curriculum and at least 50 days of experience; or a Multiple Subject teaching credential with 12 units of training in early childhood education and/or two years experience in a child development program.

The applicant should have knowledge of current early childhood program philosophy and appropriate practices, effective communication skills with parents and other staff, and a willingness to participate in professional growth activities. Bilingual (Spanish) skills and experience are desirable.

Major Duties and Responsibilities: Under the general supervision of the Coordinators of the Child Development Programs and the Head Teacher of the School Age, directs the student through a variety of experiences to enhance the student’s ability to cope with the problems of society; plans for and provides individualized daily program of activities appropriate to developmental level; evaluates students’ academic, physical, social, and emotional growth and keeps accurate records; supervises aides, volunteers and other personnel assigned to the class; plans and supervises study trips for small groups of children; communicates with parents through a variety of means.

Salary: Placement on the salary schedule commensurate with training and experience. Eligible to participate in district health, dental, and vision benefits. Current salary schedule for 225 days, at full time time: $33,482 $46,208* (*maximum entry level with 5 years experience, 45 semester units beyond BA degree.)
