School Nurse, Substitute (hourly, on-call)

The Santa Barbara School Districts announce a vacancy for a 50% time school nurse. The position is open to qualified candidates within and without the district.
Qualifications: Must possess a valid bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university and a valid Registered Nurse license issued by the State of California. Preference will be given to applicants possessing a School Nurse Services credential. Applicants not having a School Nurse Services credential must be willing to complete the requirements for the credential.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides physical assessment of students and treatment as allowed within scope of practice.
- Communicates with medical support staff and makes appropriate referrals.
- Develops schedules and procedures for mandatory vision, hearing and scoliosis screening.
- Works with other professionals to develop an ongoing and varied health education program.
- Establishes and maintains an efficient data collection system.
- Serves on Emergency Response Team, Disaster Preparedness Team and Health Services Advisory Committee.
- Provides training in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation of school personnel.
- Provides medical support/supervision for students with special medical needs.
- Presents health related presentations to classes when requested by teachers.
- Acts as a liaison with local public health agencies and the medical community.
Salary: Salary will be prorated over the number of days worked.
