Qualifications: Must possess a valid California teaching credential with authorization to teach visually handicapped students and/or Clinical Rehabilitation Services Credential with authorization in Orientation and Mobility, or an out-of-state credential with authorization similar authorization.

Major Duties and Responsibilities: Under the general direction of the Director, Special Education, plans and works regularly with school staff, counselors, and parents to provide a meaningful, appropriate instructional program for students with visual handicaps; conducts a specialized instructional program designed to integrate students with visual handicaps into regular class and school settings; provides special instruction on a regular basis to students with visual handicaps: i.e., Braille typing, handwriting, auditory training and mobility training as indicated on the I.E.P.'s; evaluates students in both academic and non-academic areas. Also confers regularly with ophthalmologists and nurses for their assistance in planning an effective educational program; refers students to agencies which provide special services, such as vocational rehabilitation; works with ancillary groups and individuals such as transcribers, readers for blind students, counselors and mobility instructors.

Salary: Placement on the salary schedule commensurate with training and experience. Eligible to participate in district health, dental, vision, and term life insurance benefits. Current salary schedule: $43,986 – 64,544*. (*The maximum entry level, seven years experience, 60 semester units beyond BA degree).
