Santa Barbara High School’s varied curriculum offers over 230 academic and elective courses. Eighty percent of Santa Barbara High students pursue further schooling beyond high school. Approximately 35% attend four-year institutions and 45% attend two-year institutions.
Until the establishment of San Marcos High School in 1958 and Dos Pueblos High School in 1966, Santa Barbara High School was the sole public high school to serve the Santa Barbara-Goleta community. Originally founded in 1875, the current structure was built in 1924. The school presently serves 2,188 students.
Santa Barbara High School was constructed on a 40-acre site. During the years since its construction, ten portables have been added to the site. All ten portables are over 25 years old and in need of immediate replacement.

INFRASTRUCTURE AND MODERNIZATION NEEDS
A Master Plan Committee met with architects to assess facilities and determine site needs, including:
- modernize classrooms;
- plumbing and restroom upgrades;
- heating system replacement;
- electrical renovation;
- painting of building exterior;
- replace clock system;
- replace or refurbish exterior windows;
- upgrade industrial arts building;
- remodel band and choral rooms;
- renovate theater electrical and lighting, stage and seating;
- remodel Field House;
- handicap accessibility upgrades;
- renovate Peabody Stadium;
- modernize PACE Center;
- upgrade the library media center;
- remodel the gym and Field House;
- upgrade the swimming pool.
