Zaca Fire Information

This morning, at a meeting of emergency services personnel, we learned that the humidity level and today’s marine layer are helping firefighters deal with the Zaca fire. The good news is that today the fire is moving away from the area closest to Santa Barbara. The county fire chief was quick to note that they continue to build fire lines to protect the community. Work continues until the fire is under complete control, which may still be weeks away, and to take every measure possible in case the current path changes and it turns back towards the South County. The wind is the chief factor in this fire.

Our school district continues to play an important role in helping the community. On Saturday, August 4, La Colina Junior High School housed more than 200 firefighters and support staff. La Cumbre Junior High was on alert to serve as a meeting center for the city, if needed. Dos Pueblos High School continues to house persons displaced because of an evacuation order, and small pets. District and school site staff have been working with the American Red Cross, Santa Barbara Chapter, and other governmental agencies to help as needed.
