Shirley Corpuz Appointed to Serve as the Santa Barbara School Districts Director of Fiscal Services
The selection process for the Santa Barbara School Districts’ director of fiscal services position is complete. Shirley Corpuz is the permanent director. For more than two years, she was the districts’ accounting coordinator until late-July, when she was selected to serve as the interim director of fiscal services. The Santa Barbara School Districts’ combined elementary and secondary combined budget expenses for 2007-08 are approximately $115 million.
Superintendent Brian Sarvis stated, “Shirley has extensive experience in financial reporting and budgeting. She is trusted for her reliable and accurate accounting and her ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. She is ready to take on the responsibility for the budget and fiscal management and is committed to fiscal transparency and accountability.”
Before joining the districts, Shirley Corpuz worked as the business manager in the Pasadena Unified School District; fiscal services manager in the Los Angeles Unified School District, Local District F, where she oversaw all aspects of a $350 million budget; accounting analyst in the Los Angeles Unified School District, General Accounting Branch; and 19 years of experience at First Interstate Bancorp, where she was a vice president.
Ms. Corpuz received a bachelor of science degree from the University of San Agustin. She is a certified public accountant. Ms. Corpuz attended Pacific Coast Banking School in Seattle and University of California’s Rossier School of Education, where she was in the school business management program. She recently completed the Chief Business Official Mentor Program sponsored by Fiscal Crisis and Management Team (FICMAT), California Association of School Business Officials, and School Services of California.
Ms. Corpuz will be introduced to the board of education as the new director of fiscal services at their regularly scheduled board meeting on Tuesday, August 14, 2007. The meeting begins at 7:00 p.m.
