San Marcos High School to Celebrate Gymnasium Renovation Project with an August 20 Ribbon Cutting
On Monday, August 20, 2007, there will be an 11:00 am ribbon cutting at San Marcos High School’s gymnasium ticket booth entrance to celebrate the renovation of the gymnasium. This renovation is part of a project that included accessibility upgrades to the site as well as the gym building.
The construction cost for this Measure V bond funded project is $7.48 million, of which $24,000 came from site fundraising for an upgraded gym floor. The scope of work includes:
- renovation of the gym (new floor, mechanized bleachers, new ventilation and heating, new lighting, state-of-the-art sound system, new acoustical sound panels, painting);
- renovation of the locker rooms (including new epoxy flooring in the girls and boys showers);
- renovation of auxiliary rooms;
- construction of a new women’s restroom;
- extensive Americans with Disabilities Act work (new hardware for the doors, new paths that make the gym and surrounding areas fully accessible, wheelchair lifts for the coaches offices; bleacher wheelchair accessibility);
- new landscaping and irrigation;
- installation of new resilient flooring in the dance room and the weight room.
The contractor on this project is Viola Constructors of Oxnard; architect is Kruger Bensen Ziemer Architects, Inc. of Santa Barbara; project management is Hoffman Associates of San Luis Obispo; and project inspection provided by Knowland Construction Services of Los Angeles.
“Our school community feels really good about playing in a first-class gym,” stated San Marcos High School Athletic Director Abe Jahadhmy.
