“A Day Made Better” for a Harding Elementary School Teacher
Last week morning school-wide assembly, Harding Elementary School second-grade teacher Karyn D’Alfonso was surprised with classroom supplies from Office Max as part of an October 7, 2007 “A Day Made Better” partnership with the Adopt-a-Classroom organization. The new joint initiative was conceived as a way to identify 1,000 teachers across the nation and provide supplies that they might otherwise purchase with out-of-pocket funds.
Office Max donated resources and supplies valued at more than $1,400 to the school on behalf of the teacher nominated by the school. Office Max donated additional funds to teachers at the school that were distributed through the Adopt-A-Classroom program.
Mrs. D’Alfonso was selected for the honor by principal Dr. Sally Kingston. “I chose Karyn D’Alfonso for the award because she has volunteered the past two summers, taking on big projects that have benefited teachers, staff, and students. Projects include leading the redecorating of the faculty lounge; reorganizing the two teachers’ workrooms; helping with the ordering of instructional materials and supplies; preparing for the cafeteria grand opening; and generally doing whatever it takes to move our school forward.” Dr. Kingston continued, “Teachers are the key to successful schools. Karyn D’Alfonso exemplifies a highly effective and dedicated teacher leader. Office Max’s program is the perfect way to thank her for the many hours she has dedicated to Harding School beyond her responsibilities as a classroom teacher.”
