La Colina Junior High School’s Wild For Animals Film Festival to Benefit Science Education
Students, their families, and community members are invited to attend a La Colina Junior High School screening of The Queen of Trees on Tuesday, October 23, 2007. The film, by Victoria Stone and Mark Deeble will be shown at 4:00 p.m. and again at 7:00 p.m. in the school’s auditorium. Admission is $5 and proceeds will benefit science education at La Colina Junior High.
The Queen of Trees won two major awards at this year’s Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival in the categories of animal behavior and writing. The filmmakers camped near a giant sycamore fig tree in the wilds of Kenya for two years to capture on film extraordinary footage of wild plans and animals.
According to a review on the Public Broadcasting System website: “It may be the one of the oddest couples: a tiny wasp that can barely be seen, and a giant fig tree…The wasp and the fig depend on each other for survival. Without the wasp, the tree could not pollinate its flowers and produce seeds. Without the fig, the wasp would have nowhere to lay its eggs.”
La Colina Junior High School is located at 4025 Foothill Road, Santa Barbara, CA.
