Assistant Superintendent of Business Services Position
Santa Barbara School Districts’ Assistant Superintendent of Business Services Ed Diaz has resigned to pursue other opportunities. The district is currently advertising for a new assistant superintendent for business services. Applications will be accepted through Friday, January 18, 2008.
In the interim, Eric Smith will serve as a consultant for business services. He will work in the districts’ Business Office on Monday-Wednesday. Mr. Smith has served as deputy superintendent of the Berkeley Unified School District, management analyst for FCMAT (Fiscal Crisis and Management Assistance Team), deputy superintendent San Luis Obispo County Office of Education, and assistant superintendent for business in Paso Robles Joint Unified. He was the team leader of the last FCMAT study for Santa Barbara School Districts and comes highly recommended by School Services of California, FCMAT, and the Santa Barbara County Education Office.
As the chief business officer, the districts’ assistant superintendent of business services is responsible for keeping the districts’ financially solvent and for serving as the administrative head for fiscal services, facilities and operations, transportation, and risk management. The assistant superintendent provides expertise on a wide variety of school business matters, including budget management, financial forecasting and analysis, real property acquisition and construction, cost containment, risk management, and contracts management. Currently, the total expenditure budget for the Santa Barbara School Districts is approximately $215,000,000.
The salary is an eight-step range, currently $124,348 – $136,750 on the management schedule, for a 225-day contract.
