Grade Assignments or Grade Changes in AP and IB Classes
A message from Assistant Superintendent Paul Turnbull:
On Tuesday, October 23, 2007 the districts’ board of education voted to give teachers the discretion regarding grade
assignments or grade changes in AP and IB classes. This is a relevant issue because some teachers believe it is important
to increase a student’s grade if the student performs at a high level on an end-of-course AP or IB exam. The debate
over a teacher’s ability to change a grade based on a student’s performance on the external exam produced good
arguments on both sides. However, the board believes in the abilities of our teachers, and in giving teachers the academic
freedom to make such decisions.
