Moss Hart’s Light Up The Sky to be performed at San Marcos High School, Beginning November 15, 2007
San Marcos High School presents Moss Hart’s Light Up The Sky on November 15, 16, 17 at 7:00 pm. Admission is $10 general and $8 students/senior citizens. This screwball comedy involves a theatre company opening a brand new show out of town at Boston’s majestic Colonial Theatre.
A 32-member company of Light Up The Sky is made possible by the hard working cast members and production and run crews, who are busy building sets, painting, hanging lights, designing and working on costumes, producing tickets, writing articles, designing logos, t-shirts, posters and more.
Principal cast members include Austin Hunt, grade 11, as the writer Peter Sloan; Dylan Tingle, grade 11, as the producer Sydney Black; Megan Groeneveld, grade 12, as the leading lady Irene Livingston; Tara Logan, grade 12, as Livingston’s overbearing stage mother, Stella; Gary Fields, grade 11, as the director, Carlton Fitsgerald; Kelly Six, grade 11, as Frances Black, the wife of the producer and avid gin rummy player; Tad Murroughs, grade 10, as a seasoned playwright; and Zia Affronti Morter, grade 12, as a ghost writer.
Act 1 is a wonderful celebration of this mutual admiration society made up of actors, directors and their entourages where everyone is a genius and the play of course is brilliant. In Act 2 we see that the opening night did not go so very well and there is blame enough for everyone as to why. Act 3 is after the reviews have come out and well... you’ll just have to see the show to enjoy the ending. Moss Hart has filled this play with wit and absurdity as he eviscerates the acting world. Filled with pop culture references of 1948, this show is a reminder of a simpler time full of nostalgia and harmless fun.
Theatre Arts teacher David Holmes is directing Light Up The Sky with Theodore Michael Dolas designing sets and lighting and Marian Azdril costumes.
