Proposed Calendar for School Year 2008-09
Earlier, there was a typographical error regarding the start of year round schools. The information should have read: “...all other SBCA and Cleveland teachers would return on Monday, July 14, 2008. Santa Barbara Community Academy and Cleveland Elementary School students would begin attending school Wednesday, July 16, 2008.” The correction has been made in the copy shown below. We apologize for any inconvenience.
The proposed calendar for school year 2008-09 is on the Tuesday, December 11, 2007 agenda of the Santa Barbara School Districts Board of Education. It is on for first reading. It is scheduled for second reading on Thursday, December 13, 2007. The proposed calendar is currently under review by the Santa Barbara Teachers Association (SBTA), in accordance with the SBTA contract. If the proposed calendar is ratified by an SBTA vote, and adopted by the board, the school calendar will be as follows:
The proposed 2008-09 calendar for the Santa Barbara School Districts’ elementary and secondary schools would be the same calendar with the same start and end dates, holidays, and winter and spring breaks. Winter break would be two weeks and spring break would be one week.
New teachers would begin work on August 18, 2008. All teachers would return for staff development on August 19 through 21, 2008, and students would begin attending school on August 25, 2008. School would end on June 4, 2009.
Santa Barbara Community Academy (SBCA) and Cleveland Elementary School would start their year-round schedule a week later than previous years. New year-round teachers would start on Friday, July 11, 2008 and all other SBCA and Cleveland teachers would return on Monday, July 14, 2008. Santa Barbara Community Academy and Cleveland Elementary School students would begin attending school Wednesday, July 16, 2008. SBCA and Cleveland would have two three-week intersessions in 2008-09. They would also have a three-week winter break. School would end for the SBCA and Cleveland students on June 11, 2009.
The Tuesday, December 11 board meeting begins at 7:00 p.m. The Thursday, December 13 board meeting begins at 5:00 p.m. The board of education meets in the Board Room, Administration Center, Santa Barbara School Districts, 720 Santa Barbara Street, Santa Barbara, CA.
