Twelve La Cumbre Junior High Students Receive San Marcos High School Outreach Award
San Marcos Advanced Placement economics students Hajir Sailors and Bryn Kass and Assistant Principal Roxanna Stern recognized 12 La Cumbre Junior High School students as recipients of the San Marcos Outreach Award on Friday, December 14, 2007.
Students: Danilo Carachure, Rosalinda Charco, Jaelin Fitzgibbons, Courtney Hazard, Gurleen Kaur, Jessica Navarette, Julio Ortiz, Miguel Rodriguez, Azalia Roman, Eric Salmeron, Luis Soto, and Markeisha Vines were selected based on their academic efforts, citizenship in the classroom, and, most of all, their character as students and as members of the La Cumbre community. Each one of the 12 students was rewarded for their hard work with a “Royal Crew” San Marcos t-shirt, a certificate of appreciation, a pass to attend San Marcos events for free, a $100 gift certificate, and a camera. The $100 check included with each student’s award will be given to his or her family to spend as they please. The camera was given to the students as a means of documenting how he or she chooses to spend their $100.
The purpose of the award is to appreciate outstanding students and to welcome them into the San Marcos family. As the students received their awards, the audience, made up of their peers and teachers was as excited as each recipient
The money for the San Marcos Outreach Award was raised through Kids Helping Kids, a non-profit organization run completely by seniors at San Marcos High School. Kids Helping Kids grossed more than $115,000 for the Unity Shoppe this year, and was honored to contribute some of the money earned to well-deserving students and their families at La Cumbre Junior High
Hajir Sailors and Bryn Kass, along with Assistant Principal Roxanna Stern, congratulated the La Cumbre students on behalf of San Marcos High School for their outstanding display of character in and out of the classroom. According to student Bryn Kass, “This is just the beginning of a great partnership between La Cumbre Junior High and San Marcos High School.”
