Marilyn Garza and Peggy Lubchenco featured in SBCEO’s News, Winter 2007-08

Santa Barbara Junior High School teacher Marilyn Garza is featured in the current issue of the county education office’s News (Winter 2007-08) as recipient of a 2007 Milken National Educator Award. She will officially receive a $25,000 cash prize on February 15 in Los Angeles. The surprise award announcement, attended by State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell, was taped and will soon be aired on Channel 21.

SBCEO’s News includes a wonderful article and photos on Peggy Lubchenco’s November 2006 experience embedded with a UCSB scientific team in Antarctica. She is a National Science Foundation Antarctic teacher. According to the article, her goals were to “...experience the scientific work, document life in Antarctica, and write standards-based curriculum using Antarctic themes.”
