At the 2007 Economic in Education Conference in San Francisco, Dos Pueblos High School economics teacher Roland Lewin recently received a California Council on Economic Education’s “Adam’s Apple.” CCEE, a nonprofit organization, was established to help California teachers expand their students’ economic literacy so that they could become successful participants in the global economy. CCEE competitions designed to make learning fun include, Capital Markets Contest; Economics Challenge; Financial Fitness; Learning, and Earning and Investing.
One of three 2007 Adam’s Apple recipients, Roland’s award included $1,000 plus a certificate of recognition from State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell for “providing outstanding service to our state’s economics students.”
A former employee of Shell Oil Company, his responsibilities there included negotiating, analyzing, and writing contracts dealing with land use for oil and gas exploration and production. Roland left the corporate world, earned his teaching credential at UCLA in 1987, and entered the teaching profession. He teaches AP microeconomics and macroeconomics and a one-semester economics course. He has been a College Board Reader of AP economics continues to coach the school’s Economics Challenge team.
