The annual report on special education was presented at the February 12, 2008 school board meeting. The report included current enrollment numbers, staffing levels, and budget information.
The number of elementary students receiving special education services is 608, or 10.78 percent of the total population. Following are some of the larger percentages of students by disability: mental retardation, 4.77 percent; speech and language impairment, 41.45 percent; emotionally disturbed, 1.64 percent, other health impaired: 4.11 percent; specific learning disability: 38.32 percent; and autism: 6.09 percent.
The number of secondary students receiving special education services is 1,276 or 12.51 percent of the total population. Following are some of the larger percentages of pupils by disability: mental retardation, 3.76 percent; speech and language impairment: 3.13 percent; emotionally disturbed, 5.09 percent; other health impaired, 6.19 percent; specific learning disability, 74.37 percent; and autism: 3.21 percent.
Special Education staffing is as follows:
Special education encroachment to the unrestricted general fund: elementary district, $2,125,947; secondary district, $5,564,897; transportation, $277,544. The total is $7,661,445.
