Community Forum on Closing the Achievement Gap
The League of Women Voters and the Santa Barbara School Districts are cosponsors of a community forum on closing the achievement gap. The event will take place on Wednesday, February 20, 2008, from noon until 2:00 pm.
The forum will present Jane Close Conoley, Dean of the Gevirtz Graduate School of Education, University of California-Santa Barbara; Sally Kingston, principal of Harding Elementary School; and Abby Vasquez or Jennifer Gibson, teachers on special assignment, English language development. Discussion will include: research on how to bring up achievement levels; recruiting, educating, and retaining teachers; the role of the principal in successful schools; and the development of in-depth English language skills.
