Michael Acton’s Third-Grade Class is in the Business of Giving

Harding Elementary School teacher Michael Acton is helping his class learn the value of giving. The third graders received a $1,000 Care and Share II grant through the Santa Barbara County Education Office. After careful consideration, the students opted to donate their award funds to Child Abuse Listening and Mediation (CALM).

According to information that Mr. Acton received from the county education office, “The experience these children will have, whether it's an exciting visit to a nonprofit site; interacting with a classroom visitor about their program; fundraising for a meaningful cause; or making something special to donate - we know this activity will be a memorable highlight for the year. Our hope is that these third graders, our future, will find the ‘caring and sharing’ impactful enough to continue throughout their lives.”
