At the February 25 “Working Together to Protect Public Education” forum of California education leaders, Brian Tanguay, CSEA’s Chapter 37 president, participated in a panel discussion on the anticipated effects of the governor’s proposed budget cuts. The forum was organized by California Lieutenant Governor John Garamendi. Brian, the districts’ purchasing/warehouse supervisor, was one of ten speakers who voiced concerns about the devastating impact that cuts would have on the educational community. The event speakers are representatives of 10 million K-12 schools, community colleges, state universities, and the University of California.
In a news release from the lieutenant governor’s office, Brian was quoted as saying, “The governor's proposed suspension of the Proposition 98 minimum funding guarantee for K-12 education will make achieving rigorous state standards even more difficult, force an exodus of talented teachers and support staff, and put additional pressure on an infrastructure that is already strained.”
