Board Agrees to a Memorandum of Understanding with Cal-Pass

Message from Dr. Davis Hayden, Director of Research, Evaluation, and Technology

California Partnership for Achieving Student Success (Cal-Pass) works with public schools and colleges to securely share group information on students. On March 11, 2008, our districts’ board of education approved a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Cal-Pass.

This MOU will allow our school district to know what happens to high school graduates that go on to colleges in California. We cannot track individuals, but can track groups of students. For example, we can request a report on how many English learners in our district go on to college. We can also learn more about how certain programs in our high schools are doing in getting students into college and graduating them from college.

Colleges can also learn more about our schools. For example, for students entering a specific college course, a college might want to know what preparatory classes the students had in high school, information that the college could access using Cal-Pass. Another benefit of Cal-Pass is that meetings are held where teachers across high school, community college, Cal state schools, and UC schools will meet to talk about curriculum across grade levels. One of those meetings for local teachers will occur on April 8.

There is no cost to our school district for these services.
