Mark your Calendar: Santa Barbara High to Perform BEAUTY AND THE BEAST
BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, Santa Barbara High’s spring musical, opens May 9, 2008, and will be performed again on May 10, 11, 15, 16 and 17 at 7:00 pm. Matinee on Sunday, May 11 at 1:00 pm. There will be a free performance on May 15 for area schools sponsored by Prudential Realty.
This production features special creature creations by Academy Award Winner Chris Walas; set/lights by Mike Madden; choreography by Christina McCarthy; music direction by Norma LaTuchie; orchestra by Santa Barbara High music instructor Charles Ortega and directed by Otto Layman. Christopher Canfield is the Beast and Jana McIntyre Belle.
Tickets are $10 adults and $7 students, except for opening and closing where special seating will be available. This event is a fundraiser. Students have been invited to the American High School Theatre Festival in Scotland in August, where they will perform the musical classic HAIR.
Santa Barbara High’s Theatre Arts Department is demonstrating the old adage, “The show must go on.” Last Sunday, the theatre was burglarized and approximately $17,000 in equipment was stolen, including microphones and the theatre’s new projector.
