Roosevelt Elementary School Students to Celebrate the Creative Child
“Celebrating the Creative Child” is the title of an art exhibition that opens tomorrow, May 3, from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm, at Arts Alive, located at 1 North Calle Chavez, Suite 100.
According to Donna Ronzone, the school’s principal, Roosevelt's art program is supported by a generous donation from the Roosevelt Elementary Education Foundation (REEF), which supports a full time art teacher, Mr. Skip Smith. All students at Roosevelt, grades K-6, have a weekly 45-minute art class. The art program at Roosevelt School seeks to build children's confidence, familiarity and skill in working with a wide variety of materials in many disciplines. Classes include instruction in drawing, painting, collage, paper mache, printmaking, ceramics, and three-dimensional construction. Students also learn about art in historical and cultural context as it is relevant to the art work that they produce while working in Roosevelt's art studio.
Approximately 150 pieces of artwork will be on display. The exhibition will continue through May 31, 2008.
