Washington Elementary School’s Quinn Hensley Takes Second Place at the 2008 State Spelling Championship

Ten-year-old Quinn Hensley, a fifth grader at Washington Elementary School, took second place in the California State Elementary Spelling Championship. According to a news release from the Sonoma County Office of Education, 61 of the top elementary school spellers, representing 32 California counties, participated in the May 17 competition. The spelling championship was held on the Sonoma State University campus in Rohnert Park

Quinn took home a second-place trophy and a $500 savings bond.

[Quinn’s achievement follows Kelvin Noronha’s first-place win at the May 10 junior high school level of the state competition. Kelvin is a La Colina Junior High student.]
