Correction: San Marcos High School’s Spring Concert

In a previous article, it was noted that tomorrow night’s San Marcos High School Spring Concert would include the marching band. The spring concert will include the jazz and concert bands.

Band director Dan Garske says that the jazz band will be playing professional level big band charts (with certain arrangements originally performed by the likes of Stan Kenton and Buddy Rich). Highlights include: “Jovian Comets,” “Promise of Dreams,” “The Hymn,” and “Wave.”

The second half of the concert features the concert band and this is the group just recently selected for next year's Carnegie Hall Band Festival. This will be their third time at that festival. There's a wide variety of music in the second half. One of the highlights in the second half will be the Santa Barbara area premiere of Eric Whitacre's piece for concert band, “Ghost Train,” which Dan says is “loaded with special effects, wild tempos and percussion sounds that give you the creeps.”

There will also be some joint numbers with guest musicians from La Colina Junior High School.

The San Marcos High School Spring Concert, which will be held in the school’s auditorium, will begin at 7:00 pm.
