Santa Barbara Elementary School District’s Students Shine at the 2008 Math Superbowl
Washington Elementary School’s 2008 Math Superbowl Team took first place in the 27th annual competition on May 15. At this year’s superbowl, held at the Earl Warren Showgrounds, 380 students participated, representing 32 schools. To achieve the school’s team win, Washington scored 552 points, followed by Mountain View (523), Vieja Valley (502), Cold Spring (500), Monte Vista (489), and Hope (481).
When scores were reported out by grade level, Washington’s fourth-grade team took first place and Peabody took sixth place. At the fifth-grade and sixth-grade levels Washington took second place.
Individual high scorers from the Santa Barbara Elementary School District were:
- Grade 4: First Place, Nicolas Katzer, Washington
- Grade 4: Second Place (tie), James Tomlinson, Washington
- Grade 4: Third Place (tie), Luke Tricase, Washington
- Grade 4: Third Place (tie), Conrad Kuklinsky, Washington
- Grade 4: Fourth Place (tie), Will de Bruynkops, Peabody Charter
- Grade 5: First Place (tie), Quinn Hensley, Washington
- Grade 5: Third Place (tie), Alainey Hellman, Washington
- Grade 6: Second Place (tie), Elizabeth Ochi, Washington
- Grade 6: Third Place (tie), Robert Summer, Washington
- Grade 6: Sixth Place (tie), John Weger, Roosevelt
