San Marcos High School’s New Swimming Pool
The construction of a new pool at San Marcos High School began on July 23, 2007. The project, paid for with Measure V bond funds, is now complete.
The old pool at San Marcos High was 15 meters by 25 yards. The new pool is 25 meters by 25 yards (8 lanes x 7 lanes). Maximum occupancy is 123 people in the water and 263 on the deck. The 403,050-gallon pool cost $2,297,800 and features accessible lifts for handicapped users and one-meter diving board. The project also included rehabilitation of the outdoor basketball court which was used as contractors staging area during pool construction, new concrete pad for team staging, new pool equipment, new operable windows in the pool office, and new pool area gates.
The pool deck sports new aluminum bleachers which were purchased for $25,000 by the San Marcos High School PTA. The SMHS Aquatics Boosters are currently raising money for a new scoreboard and Colorado timing systems on-deck timing system.
The architect for this project was Kruger Bensen Ziemer, Inc. in Santa Barbara. The pool consultant was Rowley International in Palos Verdes Estates. The contractor was Sharma-Merco in Moorpark.
