Franklin Elementary School Mural Dedication on June 11; Mural Celebrates the Dreams of Children
Franklin Elementary School will be dedicating a new mural at the school in honor of an anonymous donor who has supported the school’s art program and the community. All 540 students in grades K-6 contributed to the project with their ideas and/or drawings.
In order to come up with an image, each class voted on the themes they wanted to depict: taking care of Santa Barbara, Earth, nature, and the galaxy; a world without violence; love and peace; more art and field trips; honesty; sports; and rainbows.
The mural is made up of 12 panels. The children applied special acrylic paint to 12 4' x 8' plywood panels. The end result is a 4' x 96' mural that will be located near the Franklin playground field, behind the Eastside library.
The dedication will take place at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, June 11, 2008.
