Property Use Proposal from the Santa Barbara School Districts/Santa Barbara County Education Office to the City of Santa Barbara

The City of Santa Barbara Redevelopment Agency (RDA) has requested proposals for the use of a 2.4 acre parcel located on Calle Cesar Chavez.

On June 24, 2008, the districts’ board of education approved a memorandum of understanding between the districts and the Santa Barbara County Education Office to prepare a joint response proposal for the use of the property.

The proposal would include the relocation on the Santa Barbara School Districts’ maintenance, operations, warehouse, and nutrition services functions to the RDA property and building a community school on the districts’ maintenance and operations property for El Puente School.

The proposal will not use the districts’ funds for the construction at either site, but ask for RDA funds to build the new maintenance and operations facility and state grant money to build the Community School for El Puente. Current ownership of both sites would remain with our districts and the city.
