Santa Barbara School Districts’ Board of Education Votes to Authorize an Elementary District and a Secondary
District Parcel Tax for the November 2008 Ballot
At a special meeting today, Friday, June 27, 2008, the Santa Barbara School Districts’ Board of Education met
to consider placing two separate parcel taxes on the November 2008 ballot:
- $23 per parcel per year for four years for the Santa Barbara High School District. Parcel tax funds would be used
for supplementing math, science, and technology education; supplementing music, arts, and theater programs
at the secondary level; supplementing foreign language at the high school level; and restoring ninth-grade math class
sizes.
- $27 per parcel per year for four years for parcels in the Santa Barbara Elementary School District. Parcel tax
funds would be used for supplementing math, science, and technology education and offering classroom music
programs.
Following discussion, the board voted 4:0 (Ayes: Annette Cordero, Nancy Harter, Robert Noel, and Kate Parker; Absent:
Laura Malakoff) to authorize an elementary district and a secondary district parcel tax, with an available exemption
for senior citizens, with independent citizen oversight, and with every dollar staying on our local schools. None of
the money raised would be used for administrative salaries.
