Parcel Tax Measures H2008 and I2008 to Appear on the November 4 Ballot

To increase funding for specific programs in the Santa Barbara High School District and Santa Barbara Elementary School District, on June 27, 2008, the board of education unanimously passed two parcel tax resolutions for the November 4, 2008 election. The Santa Barbara County Elections Office has identified them as Measure H2008 and Measure I2008.

Measure H2008, a $23 per parcel per year parcel tax for the next four years, would benefit the districts’ junior highs and high schools. The parcel tax funds would support math and science technology and education as well as music, arts, foreign language, and theater programs. The tax is expected to generate more than a million dollars annually.

Measure I2008, a $27 per parcel per year parcel tax for the next four years, would benefit the districts’ elementary schools. The funds would support math, science, and technology instruction as well as the music program. The tax is expected to generate more than $600,00 annually for the elementary district.

Unique to these measures is that the parcel tax funds would be shared, proportional to students living within the districts’ boundaries, with the districts’ charter schools.

The official ballot language of Measures H2008 and I2008 is found within the board-adopted resolutions. The resolutions are posted on the districts web site.
