Antioch University is currently leasing of 4,325 square feet on the ground floor of the former site of the Santa Barbara Community Academy, commonly referred to as the “Ortega site.”
Under the terms of the lease, Antioch is paying the districts a flat rate of $1.65 per square foot per month. The term of the lease is nine months. Antioch University has been granted the use of 30 parking spaces, Monday-Friday, and use of the entire parking lot after 5:00 p.m. on weekdays and on weekends. Antioch University is paying for the costs of their own internet access and building security.
It is anticipated that the Surplus Facilities Committee will consider the former Santa Barbara Community Academy in its deliberations and that the committee will make an advisory recommendation to the board of education regarding its long-term use. However, in the interim, a short-term lease to Antioch University ensures that those classrooms no longer sit idle and will result in additional income to the districts.
