September 27 to October 4, 2008, is Banned Book Week. In order to celebrate the right to intellectual freedom, teachers and staff at San Marcos High will sit in front of the library during lunchtime and read from a variety of books that have been banned in the United States throughout the past 100 years. Some of these books are: The Color Purple, Romeo and Juliet, Harry Potter, Huckleberry Finn, and I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.
This week-long event coincides with the reopening of the school’s library on Monday, September 29. Americans with Disabilities Act renovations have been completed, making the library more accessible.
