Recent Academic Performance Index and Adequate Yearly Progress Reports

The recent release of state and federal test results found schools in both of our districts making gains and losses. Results of the state API accountability program found 13 out of 21 schools making their statewide API growth targets. The federal AYP No Child Left Behind accountability system used higher threshold goal requirements this year for each subgroup. Only seven schools made all of their AYP goals for every subgroup.

Two positive findings were that the elementary district has been “frozen” at Program Improvement Level 3 (i.e., did not advance to Level 4) and the secondary district did NOT go into Program Improvement status this year. Two schools made enough progress to pull themselves out of danger (Monroe and Santa Barbara Community Academy), while two other schools did not make enough progress with every subgroup and will be in Program Improvement Year 1 this year (Goleta Valley Junior High and Santa Barbara High). Santa Barbara High School actually made tremendous gains on the state API accountability system but failed to make the new federal AYP threshold for one subgroup in graduation rates.

Academic Performance Index

Elementary schools making all API subgroups: Open Alternative, Roosevelt, Santa Barbara Community Academy, and Washington.

Secondary schools making all API subgroups: La Cumbre Junior High and Santa Barbara Charter Middle.

Adequate Yearly Progress

Elementary schools making all AYP subgroups: Monroe, Open Alternative, Roosevelt, Santa Barbara Charter, Santa Barbara Community Academy, and Washington.

Secondary school making all AYP subgroups: Dos Pueblos High School.
