The Community Environmental Council (CEC) is spearheading a Green Rides 2 School Program to save time, save money, avoid traffic and be green. For example:
Traffic Solutions, the county rideshare agency, operates a web-based rideshare matching service. Log in at the bottom of www.TrafficSolutions.info/school-pool.htm and in five minutes receive matches of neighbors with students or employees at your school. If you don’t find a match check back a week later as new users enter the system. Any questions can be directed to Traffic Solutions at 963-SAVE. CEC’s Michael Chiacos suggests that Santa Barbara School Districts’ employees try carpooling for, say, two days a week to start.
Visit www.sbmtd.gov/Lines/Line_19.htm to view routes and information.
Twenty local organizations, coordinated by the Coalition for Sustainable Transportation (COAST), are working to enable students to walk or bike to school safely. For more information, visit coast-santabarbara.org/safe-routes-to-school
