Election 2008 at San Marcos High School
San Marcos High School’s Election 2008 activities, planned by the Social Science Department,
will include:
- A school-wide mock election on November 4. Students and faculty will be encouraged to cast
their ballots in voting booths stationed in B-11.
- Joe Holland, Santa Barbara County Clerk/Recorder/Assessor, will visit seven college prep government
classes prior to election day to discuss topics such as the voting process in Santa Barbara County
and the importance of voting. Mr. Holland conducts a mock vote during his visits, using an actual
Santa Barbara County electronic voting machine.
In addition to these multi-class activities, individual classes are planning activities, such
as:
- debates and class mock elections.
- candidate support papers.
- class “ candidate press conferences”.
- term project: “Senators McCain and Obama - Comparing the Issues”
