Last night, the voters in our community passed Measures H2008 and I2008, to benefit the Santa Barbara Elementary and High School Districts. “We are thrilled that our community is so supportive of our kids and additional opportunities for their learning,” said Superintendent Brian Sarvis. “Thanks go out the grass roots ‘Yes on H and I Committee,’ Santa Barbara Education Foundation, Santa Barbara Teachers Association, League of Women Voters, and our PTAs for pulling together and making this a success.”
Measure H2008 ($23 per year per parcel) will supplement math, science, and technology education; music arts and theater programs at the junior high level; foreign language at the secondary level, and restore ninth-grade math class sizes. Measure I2008 ($27 per year per parcel) will supplement math, science, and technology education and provide classroom music instruction. Each parcel tax will begin July 1, 2009 and expire on July 1, 2012.
Three seats for the districts’ board of education were on the November 4 ballot. Incumbent Annette Cordero and candidate Susan Christol Deacon were selected. Ed Heron is slightly ahead in the polls for the third seat; absentee ballots are still being tallied by the Santa Barbara County Elections Office.
