All Schools in the Santa Barbara School Districts will be open Monday, November 17, 2008

Several schools in the Santa Barbara Elementary School District were closed on Friday, November 14, 2008, due to the Tea Fire that started the night before.

Fire and law enforcement officials indicate that it is safe to reopen schools that were closed on Friday: Cleveland Elementary, Franklin Elementary, Roosevelt Elementary, Cesar Chavez Charter, Franklin Childrens Center, Parma Childrens Center, and the Early Years Child Development Program.

All schools in the Santa Barbara Elementary and High School Districts will be open on Monday, November 17, 2008. In light of the smoke and particulates in the air, our schools will curtail outside activities.

The Tea Fire has been a very difficult situation for entire community; many of our students and staff were directly affected. In the face of this disaster, school staff are prepared to support the needs of our students, staff, and families.

One resource in talking to children is “Helping Children After a Wildfire: Tips for Parents and Teachers.” The information, provided by the National Association of School Psychologists, is available in English, Spanish, and other languages at: http://www.nasponline.org/resources/crisis_safety/#natural
