Board of Education Focus Goals for 2009-2010
At the November 25, 2008 meeting of the Santa Barbara School Districts Board of Education, the
board adopted the following board focus goals for 2009-10:
Student Achievement
Every school will significantly increase participation of underrepresented students in advanced
courses (e.g. GATE, Advanced Placement, Honors, International Baccaulaureate, Academies, Dual Enrollment).
- All schools will exceed annual state and federal academic performance targets.
- Every school will achieve an overall Similar Schools Rank of eight (8) or higher, with each
student subgroup also achieving a Similar Schools Rank of eight (8) or higher.
- All high schools will increase the number of students and underrepresented students, who are
eligible for admission to University of California and California State University schools
(complete A-G requirements, PSAT, SAT/ACT, above 3.5 grade point average).
Student Safety and School Climate
- All schools will improve student safety and school climate as measured by appropriate district
surveys.
Communication
- The district will improve communication between the Board, district office, site staff, parents,
and community.
In order to support these goals in 2009-2010, the Board will:
- Begin discussion on an updated Strategic Plan and review other existing district plans for fidelity
and effectiveness of implementation
- Implement a K-12 Gang Prevention and Intervention Program
- Develop a district-specific School Safety Survey
- Provide customer service training tailored for school districts for district office staff
- Have Board email links from the district website
- Hold one meeting or workshop per semester at a school site
