On November 22, 2008, at the Moorpark High School “Battle of the Bands” marching band competition, San Marcos High School won the “Sweepstakes” award for the 1A and 2A Divisions, being the highest scoring band of the morning out of 20 other marching bands. The marching band also won awards for high general effect and high visual performance.
There are 54 students in the band and color guard, including student Drum Major Zane Golas. The students have been learning and perfecting their 2008 field production entitled, “Arachnid,” since last June, and on Saturday, December 6, the marching band will compete in the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Field Championships at Pasadena City College.
