On Wednesday evening, December 17, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. the Open Alternative School community will participate in an annual Festival of Lights.
During December each class has been learning about a winter celebration from another culture. As a part of the festival, visitors will be going from class to class to participate in activities designed to teach about different cultures. Each person will receive a passport as a record of their “international travels.” Students have learned about multiple celebrations, including: St. Lucia, Divali, Winter Solstice, Shogatsu, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Ramadan, Epiphany, and traditions from early California.
