Three San Marcos High School students participated in the 72nd annual Student Speakers Contest, held on February 12, 2009, and coordinated by the Santa Barbara Host Lions Club. The topic was “Water: Will California Be Left High and Dry?” Kelley Sener, Jonathan Ochi, and Alice Zajic did a fine job and when the judging was over, Alice Zajic won first place.
Then, on Tuesday February 17, the Goleta Lions Club held the same contest and again three students from San Marcos High School competed. Rachel Ballinger, Heather Ehlen and Claire Lombrozo had a strong showing and Claire Lombrozo was declared the winner. Claire will now go on to compete against the other club contest winners from Santa Barbara and Carpinteria for more than $20,000.00 in scholarships.
Congratulations students and their coach, David Holmes.
