Teachers and administrators from both the elementary and the high school districts have been going through the process of selecting new instructional materials in mathematics and reading/language arts.
The secondary schools adopted and purchased new math materials during the 2007-08 school year, with the exception of Algebra Readiness materials that were still in development at the time of the adoption. The elementary district completed the adoption process for new math materials last month and the board approved the adoption. Both districts will be completing the selection portion of the adoption process for new reading/language arts materials by the end of this school year. Regardless of whether purchases are made for the reading/language arts materials this year or the next year, both districts will complete the selection process.
Due to the fiscal crisis both districts are facing, only those materials that are mandated by the State Board of Education will be purchased this year. Following is a list of the materials required for compliance and their costs:
