Harding Elementary School Farmers Market
In the spring of 2008, a subcommittee of the Harding School Environment Committee initiated a discussion regarding Harding School hosting a regular farmers market on the Mountain Avenue/Valerio Street playground as a pilot project with only 12 stalls to start. Since that time, the principal has gained support for the idea from Sam Edelman, general manager of the Santa Barbara Certified Farmers Market Association (SBCFMA), Santa Barbara City Council’s Helene Schneider, Superintendent Brian Sarvis, and Deputy Superintendent Eric Smith. As a result of these collaborative efforts, Harding School submitted a formal request to the school board to adopt a resolution for the use of the playground for a regularly-scheduled farmers market to be held every Wednesday from 3:00 PM to dusk.
Last Tuesday, the board of education approved the project.
