MESA Day at UCSB

Students from the districts’ junior high schools participated in the March 7, 2009, Mathematics Engineering Science Achievement (MESA) competition at UC Santa Barbara on Saturday. La Cumbre and Goleta Valley junior high schools report the following results:

LA CUMBRE JUNIOR HIGH

• First place in Geometry Math Quest-Individual Level, Joseph Spicer
• First place in the crystal growing competition, Sandy Campbell and Lizbeth Medina

GOLETA VALLEY JUNIOR HIGH

• First place in the pre-algebra division, Aidan Hovey
• Third place in pre-algebra division, Jeff Schultz
• Third place in the egg drop competition, Arianna Wallis and Miranda Jaimes

The MESA Engineering Program operates out of the University of California’s Office of the President and is a statewide network of related programs. UCSB’s MESA School Program provides academic enrichment and preparation to K-12 schools in local schools. The program prepares underrrepresented students for UC admission eligibility.
