Washington Elementary’s Michael Riley is a Crystal Apple Winner

Outstanding educators from North and South County were announced to receive the 2009 Venoco, Inc. Crystal Apple Educator Awards. This year’s Crystal Apple South County elementary teacher winner is Michael Riley, Washington Elementary School. The honorees will be honored at the annual Education Celebration sponsored by the Teachers Network of the Santa Barbara County Education Office on May 27 at the Santa Ynez Valley Marriott in Buellton.

Nominated for this award by their peers, Crystal Apple winners are recognized for their dedication, their instructional and motivational skills, their ability to challenge and inspire students, and their ability to interact with students, staff, and members of the local community.

Crystal Apple winners receive a special crystal apple plaque and a $500 stipend, provided by the program sponsor, Venoco, Inc. Congratulations Michael!

Congratulations to all 22 San Marcos High varsity sports that had a grade point average of 3.10 and above. Girls tennis 3.853 and boys swimming 3.623 are the CIF Academic Champions. San Marcos had several runner ups and finished in the top five in all 22 sports. The teams will be honored at the Los Angeles Angels vs Detroit Tigers game on Wednesday April 22.
