On April 27, Roland Lewin, economics teacher at Dos Pueblos High School, will be taking his team to the regional championship of the 2009 NCEE/Goldman Sachs Foundation Economic Challenge.

To reach the regional level, high school teams must first win at the state level in either the Adam Smith Division or the David Ricardo Division. The California challenge championship took place on April 8 in San Bernardino, Dos Pueblos dominated the Adam Smith Division competition, outscoring its nearest opponent by 110 points in the first three rounds. The rounds are a series of 15 multiple question tests on microeconomics, macroeconomics and international trade. This marks the sixth year in a row that Dos Pueblos has won the state championship.

The Adam Smith Division includes students currently taking an Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, honors, college level, or two-semester class. The David Ricardo Division is for students enrolled in all other general economics or one-semester economics classes.

Dos Pueblos High School team members are Nicholas Su, Angela Dai, Jacob Kovacs-Goodman, Michael Brand, Da-bin Ryu (alternate), and Anjian Wu (alternate).

Winning teams from regional competitions will advance to compete at the national finals in New York City on May 16-18, 2009.
