Jesusita Fire Update

A number of schools are closed today due to the Jesusita Fire: Peabody, Roosevelt, Franklin, Cesar Chavez, Cleveland, Home School Santa Barbara Elementary at Monte Vista, Parma Children's Center, and Santa Barbara High School Early Years. (Santa Barbara High School is open.) This will include these schools' child development classes and A-OK programs (at these schools only). All school closures were made at the direction of local law enforcement.

All other schools are open today, unless notified otherwise. Please restrict outdoor activities unless the air is clear. If you see smoke or smell smoke, stay indoors.

The Red Cross Emergency Evacuation center has been moved from the First Presbyterian Church to Dos Pueblos (Dos Pueblos will be open).

Helicopter water bucket flights will be staged tonight and tomorrow from the Santa Barbara Junior High field (Santa Barbara Junior High will be open but will not use the field).

For the schools that will be closed, principals have notified staff. An all-district call-out to parents was made last night. We have also notified all TV and radio stations. Schools that are closed will have staff head off parents who do not receive the message and bring their children to school tomorrow morning. Children walking to school will not be sent home until parents have been reached and it is determined safe to do so.
