On May 9, eighth-grade La Colina Junior High student Brenna Hensley captured second place in the 2009 California State Junior High Spelling Bee Championship. The event was held at Miller Creek Middle School in San Rafael and 51 students in grades 7 through 9 competed. Brenna took home a certificate and gift items.
As reported yesterday, on May 16 at Sonoma State University, Brenna’s little brother Quinn took first place in the elementary level of the same competition.
Both students attributed their love of reading as the reason behind their success. Brenna loves to read fantasy and Quinn is fond of Sherlock Holmes as well as adventures of the ancient world.
